Tatham's Island, Hampton Wick Stephen's Ait was rented from the Thames Conservancy by Henry Edward Tatham (1822-1901). As he was always working on it, it was commonly spoken of as Tatham's Island. It was even named as such in the Ordnance Survey map of 1896, becoming Steven's Eyot in the 1913 map. Since 1960 it has been the base of the Small Boat Club. |

- Henry Edward Tatham, b. 1822, and of the London Stock Exchange, was residing at 26 Talbot Square, W., when his four sons entered Harrow. Later he resided at Teddington. He rented Stephen's Ait from the Thames Conservancy, and, as he was always working on it, it was commonly spoken of as "Tatham's Island". He d. 27 Nov.,1901, aged 79, at Wimborne, Dorset; bur. in the Cemetery there. [Curtis]
- His Armorial Book-plate is in the British Museum Collection; the Crest and Arms are identical with those of Ralph Tatham, M.B., of Sunderland, 1702-1752; except that for 3 Doves are substituted 3 Martlets, which are used by descendants of younger brothers, "for difference". Motto: "Veritatem". [Curtis]
