  Notes	Note in Curtis, pp. 7-7a: It seems highly probable that this marriage is the one quoted below from the Durham and Stockton records, "Captain Walton" being in that case identical with "Robert Whorlton, mariner." * 1747/8, Jan. 9. Robert Whorlton, Br., Stockton, 21, mariner, and Catharine Tatham of Bishopton, 21, Spr. Bondsman, John Charleton, Stockton, mar., (Durham Mar. Bond.) * 1747/8, Jan.11. Robert Whorlton and Catherine Tatham; (Stockton Regs.) Note by Mr. H. M. Wood: The age given as "21" only means that they were of "full age". When supplying the above records of the "Whorlton"-Tatham marriage, Mr. H. M. Wood informed the present compiler that unless there is an error in stating on p.7 of the Notes for the Tatham pedigree, that Catherine-Cordelia m. Capt. Walton, he, Mr, Wood, could not identify this marriage. It should therefore be mentioned that in one pedigree, "Capt. Walton m. Catherine-Cordelia"; and in that of Mr. Stanley Tatham, Catherine is not marked married, and "Capt. Walton m. Cordelia." Though it is still a matter for investigation, the compiler has, for the present, adopted the version that Capt. Walton m. Catherine-Cordelia, 5th dau., rather than that which makes Cordelia a 6th dau. of Ralph Lawrence Tatham and Anne Mawes [Mawer]. The "Whorlton"-Tatham entries, however, certainly favour the belief that Capt. Walton's wife was named simply Catherine, and tends to strengthen the view that there was a 6th dau., Cordelia Tatham, though nothing else has been learnt of her. Note 2012. The matter turns out to be simple. The 10th & 11th children of Ralph Tatham & Ann Mawer were each named Catherine Cordelia; the elder died in infancy. [Bishopton parish registers]
