It looks as if there were no business connections between the first 'William' and his Uncle John. Is it not likely that his mother (when a widow) consulted her brother-in-law round the corner about a career and was told 'Put the boy into the law. He has a nice bit of capital and can set up on his own.' John's descendants also stuck to the law. Wulfstan, whom I knew, is, I believe, still alive and may know something of his great- grandfather. Conceivably he might know of a connection with Richard Smith with whom the first William worked in 1823. The connection with the writer's family is remote. Ralph's father had an elder brother - also Ralph -, from whom the writer is descended. His father - George Allen Ralph - knew Percy Tatham well; and their respective sons knew each other before the first war. Ralph's elder son - Allen - went to Rugby just after Percy's elder son - Cautley - left. Cautley was killed in the first war. 30th April, 1959 W. G. Tatham The only picture of the branch of the family connected with Tatham & Lousada is that of Ralph's uncle Ralph who was a Doctor (1702 - 1752). The best source of information is Mrs. Meaburn Tatham, Brambles, Arkley, Herts, whose husband is the 'head' of the family.
