45 Torrington Square, Bloomsbury

Notes: "My parents at the time of my birth [21 Sep 1828] were living in my Father's house, 45 Torrington Square, Bloomsbury, a long leasehold house, which I believe he bought just after it was built." [Charles Tatham, Reminiscences].
Torrington Square was developed in the 1820s/1830s and consisted of elegant late Georgian terraces. Famous residents included Christina Rosetti, at no. 30 (still standing) and, briefly, Gustav Mahler.
The entire square was sold by the Bedford Estate in the 1950s to London University. Most of it has since been demolished, including no. 49. The site now houses Birkbeck College and other university institutions.
In Apr 1911 no 49 was a ladies' boarding house and comprised 14 rooms.
