Notes |
- Elder sister Barbara Edith Stirling (1891-1966) was a driver with the all-women Hackett Lowther Canteen and Ambulance Unit, which served in the French Army 1917-1919. She married their French liaison officer Victor Léon Henri Chatenay at Goring on 01 Oct 1919. They had 5 children: Louis-Pierre ("Peter"), Michel ("Moonie"), Jacques, Antoine ("Tony"), Anne-Marie. All the family were active in the French Resistance in WW2. Barbara herself was arrested by the Gestapo in 1943, tortured and sent to Ravensbruck concentration camp, but survived. After WW2 her husband Victor Chatenay went into politics and became mayor of Angers, where he died in 1985 at the age of 99. [Val Brown; French Wikipedia; etc]
