- Eileen had to go up to her parents in London, as Lady Roden was very ill - with a stroke, which had taken her sight - they hoped only temporarily. But she never really got right, and died ten days after the first attack - only a few days after Eileen got to her - on Friday 8th. [Silvia Tatham, Diaries, vol xxxiii, 1935-1937]

Notes |
- Her "Album" contains a page headed Stockwell College, June 29th 1880, then "The Days that are no more", and the first verse of Tennnyson's "Tears, idle tears", finishing "With the best wishes of Yours sincerely, Althea A Grant". This suggests that Rachel was leaving the college (and/or her friend was) at that time. Stockwell College was a teachers training college. It was only abt 2 miles from William Tarn & Co's establishment in Southwark where Rachel was living & working in Apr the following year. Its archives are stored (2010) on the former campus of Brunel University.
