- Rev Barker became Archdeacon of Durban and of Pietermaritzburg and because of his service and his distinguished conduct while Vicar of Ladysmith during the Siege, the Archbishop of Canterbury conferred on him the Lambeth degree of Doctor of Divinity. [Kittybrewster website]
