    • Bentley Priory was opened as a girls school after the death of Frederick Gordon in 1908. It housed 70 boarders and it is interesting to note that there were 20 pianos in separate soundproof rooms. For several years the school prospered as a female preserve. Male staff were required to leave by 9:30pm when the gates were locked. Any man inadvertently entering the grounds was politely but rapidly removed. After the Great War the school failed. At the end of the winter term, 28 December 1924, the school gates closed for good. [Wikipedia etc]
    • The school clearly specialised in music. When Aileen Tatham was there, three of the 11 teachers were music mistresses [1911 census].

    • Albertus Ohlendorff (born 20 Mar 1834 in Hamburg ; died 20 Jan 1894 at Gut Gresse; full name: Christian Heinrich Albertus Freiherr Ohlendorff ) was a Hamburg merchant and Mecklenburg landowner who was nobilized as a baron in 1873. He rose together with his brother Heinrich to become the largest guano importer in the German Empire. Both brothers belonged to the close circle of friends of Reich Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and also supported his politics in the media. For the funeral of Albert Freiherr von Ohlendorff in Gresse in 1894, a special train was deployed between the Berlin station in Hamburg and Schwanheide station. He was buried in the mausoleum in front of the baroque village church of Gresse. [German Wikipedia, trans Google]
