- On Saturday afternoon, at the picturesque parish church of Ramsbury, near Hungerford, Berks, in the presence of only the relations of both families (on account of the recent death of a relative in the wife's family), the wedding took place of Mr. George Anson Byron, eldest son of the Hon. and Rev. William Byron, of Trowell Rectory, Notts, grandson of the late seventh Lord Byron, and cousin of the present peer, and Miss Georgina Maie Burdett, daughter of Sir Francis Burdett, Bart., J.P. for Surrey (High Sheriff, 1880), Wilts, and Derby, and a J.P. and D.L. for Berks, and Lady Amelia[sic: but her mother was Mary Dorothy Burdett née Smith; Francis Burdett's first wife was Amelia Eliza Sharp] Burdett, of Ramsbury Manor, Wilts, Kirby Bellars, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, Foremark Hall, Repton, Derbyshire, and Ancaster House, Richmond, Surrey, and granddaughter of the late Mr. John Smith, Cleatham, Durham.
The service, which was fully choral, was very impressively conducted by the Rev. Henry Baber, vicar of Ramsbury, assisted by the Rev. Charles Bristowe and the Rev. T. Ham. The bride was accompanied by her father, who in due course gave her away, and Mr. Sydney Seymour, a personal friend of the bridegroom, attended as "groomsman."
The bride wore a magnificent dress of the richest white satin duchesse, neatly trimmed with flounce of exquisite Brussels lace, caught up with small sprigs of orange blossom and myrtle in foliage, artistically arranged, and a long court train of the same material. The bodice, which had a high Medici collar of the same exquisite lace, was also trimmed with a crossing in front, very full round of basque, falling down the entire left side of the skirt, with sprays of orange blossoms and myrtle. Her tulle veil was fastened with diamond stars, which was the gift of the bride's sister, Mrs. Houston, of Clerkington, Haddington, N.B., and a neat bouquet of selected choice blooms, tied with streamers en suite, the gift of the bridegroom, completed an exceedingly handsome and much admired bridal costume.
She was attended by six bridesmaids -- Miss Maud Clara Frances Burdett (sister of the bride), Miss Byron (sister of the bridegroom), Miss Davidson and Miss Flora Davidson (nieces of the bridegroom), and Miss F. Dyneley (cousin of the bride). Miss Burdett and Miss Byron wore trained dresses of white brocade, with Louis XV coats and gold and white tinsel waistcoats, with ruffles of embroidered chiffon, and large white Gainsborough hats. The bridegroom's present to them were diamond and moonstone bangles, the initials of the bride and bridegroom being let into the moonstone in diamonds, and bouquets of selected Marechal Niel roses in foliage. The four younger bridesmaids (the Misses Davidson, Miss Hoare, and Miss F. Dyneley) wore smocked frocks of soft white silk, with sashes and hats of drawn silk, with ostrich tips en suite. The bridegroom's presents to them were moonstone brooches ornamented with pearls, and each carried an artistically arranged basket of Marechal Niel roses, with streamers en suite. Two pages, Master Hoare (nephew of the bridegroom) and Master Lambart, acted as train-bearers. They were very picturesquely costumed in suits of white satin with gold trimmings and lace collar and cuffs en suite, and also wore white satin hats with ostrich tips, after a picture by Gainsborough. The bridegroom's presents to them were pearl horseshoe pins.
The ceremony over, the bridal party adjourned to Ramsbury Manor, where the dejeuner was laid, and afterwards Mr. and Mrs. George Anson Byron left en route for Switzerland, where they intend spending their honeymoon. The bride's going-away dress was of soft Indian cashmere with large grey hat of fancy straw and mantle en suite. [Derby Mercury, 26 Aug 1891]
