Great Ryburgh
; Concert [7] |
- Great Ryburgh. The first concert of the Ryburgh Amateur Society was given on Friday evening. in the National School-room, which was crowded with an appreciative audience. Dr. Horace Hill conducted. The first part of the entertainment was made up of a miscellaneous selection, commencing with the National Anthem. The overture, from Mendelssohn's "Son and Stranger," arranged for piano, violin and violoncellos, was beautifully rendered by Mrs. Tatham, her sons, Messrs. C. and W., and her daughter. Songs, duets, instrumental trios, and choruses followed. Mrs. Tatham played a grand pianoforte selection from Beethoven, in an accomplished manner. Miss Buller, soprano, and Miss Saxon, contralto, were much applauded for their songs, and acknowledged the warm encores given. Mr. C. Tatham, who has the foundation of an excellent tenor voice, was well received. The second part included the cantata of "John Gilpin," with an orchestral overture by members of the society, Mrs. Tatham presiding at the piano. The spirited choruses were fairly well sung. The soloists, in character, Miss Buller, Miss Saxton, and Messrs. C. and W. Tatham, were especially good. The entire evening seemed to be thoroughly enjoyed by all present.
