    • On May 21, 1948, suddenly, in Buenos Aires, Ian Wilson Young, Counsellor of His Majesty's Embassy, most dearly beloved husband of Charlotte, and father of David, Hylda and Conway. [8]
    • Mr I. A. D. Wilson-Young. A Promising Diplomat. Mr. F. Ashton-Gwatkin writes:
Mr. Ian Wilson-Young died at his post as Counsellor at H.M. Embassy, Buenos Ayres, on May 21. He was one of the most promising of those younger diplomats who are beginning to emerge into the posts of higher responsibility, ans his future in the Foreign Service seemed assured. He had all the qualities required for the profession - unostentatious intelligence and common sense, sympathetic interest in those around him, a taste for hard work, good business acumen, charm of manner, athletic competence (he was an exceptionally good golfer), good looks and money of his own. His death is a loss to his country and a grief to his friends; it is a tragedy to his American-born wife and their three children, who completed the picture of what a diplomat's home should be and how its hospitality should be extended. He had come into the Foreign Service from the Naval College at Dartmouth and he had always something of that easy chivalry which is the mark of the Royal Navy. From Dartmouth he went to Balliol College, Oxford. Thence he passed into the Diplomatic Service, and served in London, Washington, Rio de Janeiro, Lisbon, and again the Foreign Office, where he was head successively of the South-East Asia and North America Departments. As a colleague and as a friend he will be very greatly missed. [4]
