- Geelong Agricultural Society. The Wine Awards. The judging of wine in connection with the Geelong show took place yesterday, and there was keen competition between the various classes, the district growers of vines in particular being spoken of highly by the judges. [...] Altogether there were nine sections, four being for growers and the other five being open. The entries on the whole were satisfactory, but in the class for cider, Mr. J. Deppeler, Batesford, had the field to himself. In the classes for growers, first prizes were secured by Messrs. J. Deppeler, [...] and Chas. E. Vienet. [...] The detailed results are as appended:- Best red wine, light dry, 3 bottles: J. Deppeler, Batesford, 73 points, 1, and 72 points, 2. Best white wine, light dry, 3 bottles: [...], Chas. E. Vienet, Waurn Ponds, 2; [...] Best white wine, vintage 1901, 2 bottles: Chas. E. Vienet, 76 points, 1; J. Deppeler, 74 points, 2; [...]. Best cider, any age, 3 bottles: J. Deppeler, 1, 2 and 3.
