    Notes
    • Captain Devereux Herbert Mytton, of Garth, Welshpool, died on Tuesday at the age of 78. He was one of the most prominent public men in Montgomeryshire and came of an old Welsh family. He was born in Bengal, where his father was a High Court Judge. He retired from the army, the 85th Foot, when he came into the family estates 40 years ago and devoted his life to the affairs of the county. He was Sheriff of the county in 1873, as many Myttons had been before him. He was Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Chairman of the County Council, Quarter Sessions, and Standing Joint Committee. He was also a member of many Welsh educational and other bodies. He was the leader of the Unionist Party in the county, and in 1886 and 1892 contested the county seat unsuccessfully against Mr. Stuart (now Lord) Rendel. Captain Mytton married, in 1873, Emma L., only daughter of Mr. E. Storey, of the Madras Civil Service, by whom he had four sons and two daughters. [The Times, 17 Feb 1910]
