    • Gerald Leroy Taylor, Elmsdale, passed away on July 8, 2007, in the Victoria General site, QEII Hospital, after a long battle with a lung infection. Gerald was born in Berwick, on February 14, 1923, to Frederick Charles Taylor and Alberta (Combs) Taylor. He joined the army at age 18 and went overseas serving in the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Engineers from 1941 to 1945. He met his wife Cynthia Tatham, in England, and they were married in 1943. He farmed and worked in the woods while living in Enfield and served as a government guide for fishing and hunting. In1945 he joined the Royal Canadian Legion in Elmsdale and then switched to Branch 133, in Enfield, serving in various executive positions and was awarded a lifetime membership. For many years he proudly marched as a veteran in the Enfield parade on Remembrance Day. Gerald retired in 1984 after 22 years of employment with the Canadian Corp of Commissionaires in HMCS Dockyards, Halifax. Gerald was a member of the Stewiacke Harmonica Band and then played with the All Time Favourites band for over 25 years, performing with his friends at Senior Citizen functions from Truro to Halifax. He enjoyed many years raising horses, participating in C.H.A.P.S., and gardening. He was predeceased by sisters, Evelyn Murray and Ida Wambolt, and brother Lawrence; grandchildren, Joseph, Vanessa, and Martin. He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Cynthia, children, Elaine (David), Hubbards; Andrea, (Raymond) Berwick; Frederick (Judy), Freeport; Normajean (Robert), Coldstream; Anthony (Arlene), Shubenacadie; Phillip, (Pamela), St. George, N.B.; Rodney, (Lyn), Elmsdale; Pamela, Vancouver, B.C.; Geoffrey (Alice), Nine Mile River; 19 grandchildren;10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lottie (Gamble), Milford; Leota (Patterson), Massachusetts; brother, Gary (Marilyn), Berwick. Papa will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and faithful dog Max. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday with funeral service 2 p.m., Wednesday, both in the Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. Burial will follow in Mountainview Cemetery, Wittenburg, reception to follow in Enfield Legion. Flowers from family only please. Donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Enfield.
