    • son Frederick Richard Saunders (CMG; later Sir Frederick, KCMG), b Ceylon 07 Jul 1838, d Hove 30 Mar 1910). Also in Ceylon civil service, & also Treasurer. When Assistant Government Agent, Kegalle, he captured the outlaw Utuwankande Sura Saradiel at Mawanella 21 Mar 1864. [Elizabeth College Register, 1824-1873; The Times; other sources]
      "Sir Frederick Saunders was born in 1838, and was educated at Guernsey College and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. He entered the Ceylon Civil Service in 1857, and became successively District Judge, Inspector-General of Prisons, Government Agent for the Western Province, and Auditor-General. In 1890 he was appointed Treasurer of the island and Commissioner of Stamps. He received the C.M.G. in 1880 and the K.C.M.G. in 1897, retiring from the service in 1890. Sir Frederick was twice married - first, in 1807, to Mary Jane, daughter of Mr. W. C. Gibson, C.M.G. [possibly his cousin; died Leamington 30 Apr 1895], and, secondly, in 1900, to Christina Sophia, widow of Captain C. F. Borrer, late 60th Rifles, and daughter of Mr. C. K. Freshfield, M.P. His second wife died last year." [obituary, The Times, 01 Apr 1910]
    • grandson Reginald Gibson Saunders, b 02 Dec 1878, d Kensington 12 Apr 1962: "Mr R G Saunders is a son of Sir Frederick Richard Saunders, formerly Treasurer of Ceylon, grandson of Mr Frederick Saunders, who occupied a similar position in 1861. ... He was born in Colombo in 1878, and educated in England at Tonbridge School and Cheltenham College. He entered the Ceylon Government Service and held various minor appointments, syuch as Third Assistant to the Postmaster-General, Acting Assistant Collector of Customs and Police Magistrate, Trincomalee, and Office Assistant to the Government Agent, Uva Province. In 1903 he became Police Magistrate, Matara, and in 1904 Assistant Government Agent and District Judge, Mannar,and in 1906, on his return from half-pay leave, he was appointed Commissioner of Requests and Police Magistrate, Chilaw. Later he was made Assistant Government Agent and District Judge, Chilaw. He attended the two pearl fisheries of 1904 and 1905 in his official capacity.".
