    Notes
    • Hubert Jocelyn Nangle, elder son of Henry Coryndon Nangle, was born in 1909, in Dawlish. He was educated at the Imperial Service College and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. In 1929, he was commissioned for service with the Indian Army and went out to India. After the usual one year's attachment to a British battalion he joined the 7th Gurkha Rifles in Quetta. After a few years he left the Indian Army and returned to England where he then was engaged in various commercial undertakings up until the outbreak of the 1939-45 war. He then returned to the army and served with the Queen's Royal Regiment in the heavy fighting in northwest Europe. He was awarded the D.S.O. in 1944 and a bar to it in 1945, in which year he commanded his battalion as a Lt. Colonel. The following year he was appointed Chief Instructor, Tactical, at the Army School of Infantry. In 1948, he returned to civilian life, but maintained a connection with the army by commanding the London Rifle Brigade, a territorial army battalion, from 1949-52. In 1955, he joined the firm of Royal Doulton Fine China, Ltd., in which he became a director. While with the firm he lived at Alsager in Cheshire. On 3rd September 1937, he married Mary Elaine, daughter of Thomas Jesse Johnstone of Helston in Cornwall. They had one daughter, Simone Virginia Nangle, who was born on 9th July 1938, and one son, Patrick Nicholas William Coryndon Nangle, who was born 10th February 1943.
