    • Major-General Charles Stuart Lane, C.B., died on Saturday at Harcourt House, Camberley, in his 83rd year.
      General Lane, who retired from the Bengal Staff Corps with the honorary rank of major-general in 1882, had seen a good deal of service. In the suppression of the mutiny he was present at the siege and capture of Delhi, the actions of Allyghur and Cawnpore, and the relief of Lucknow, receiving two clasps to his medal. In the Bhutan expedition of 1865-6 he received a clasp for the capture of Dewangiri; and in the Afghan War of 1878-9 he was mentioned in dispatches. He received the C.B. in 1907. [The Times]
