    • On April 24, 1935, at Sidmouth, Valentine Knapp, late of Kingston-upon-Thames, dearly beloved husband of Florence Knapp, aged 74. Funeral at Woking Crematorium to-day (Saturday) at 2 p.m. No flowers,by request. Memorial service at All Saints, Parish Church, Kingston-upon-Thames, on Monday, April 29, at 12.15 p.m. [The Times, Sat 27 Apr 1935]
    • St Bride's Church, Fleet St. The gates to the raised churchyard, at the main entrance off Fleet Street, were erected in 1936 by The Newspaper Society in memory of Valentine Knapp, President of the Society 1919-1922. [London Gardens Online, accessed 10 Sep 2013]
      In 1984 two commemorative plaques were still on the gates, but by 13 Aug 2013 the one bearing Valentine Knapp's name had disappeared, believed to have been stolen by metal thieves. [Lesley Jay, personal communication]

    Notes 
    • Mr. Valentine Knapp, from 1887 to 1920 editor of the Surrey Comet and from 1919 to 1922 president of the Newspaper Society, died at Sidmouth on Wednesday at the age of 74. Born on February 14, 1861, the son of Mr. R. G. A. Knapp, he was educated at Christ's Hospital. He was a director of Messrs. Knapp, Drewett and Sons, Limited, of Kingston-on-Thames, in which town he formerly lived. After he retired from the presidency of the Newspaper Society, he became the society's honorary treasurer, an office he held from 1923 to 1932. For 10 years - 1922-32 - he was chairman of the Journalism Committee of the University of London. Twice married, Mr. Knapps's first wife, to whom he was married in 1893, was Annie Powell. His second wife, whom he married in 1908, wsa Florence Ellen Blatchford. She survives him. He had three sons, one of whom was killed in the War. The funeral will take place at Woking Crematorium to-morrow at 2 p.m. [The Times, 26 Apr 1935]
