    • We regret to announce that Sir Hugh Bell, the great iron-master, for many years a notable figure in the public life of the North of England, died at his home in Sloane-street yesterday at the age of 87, after three days' illness. He was active to the last in his various concerns, and had promised to go to Australia to open the great bridge across Sydney Harbour which his company, Messrs. Dorman, Long & Co., are now building.     • The King was represented by the Earl of Harewood at the funeral of Sir Hugh Bell, which took place at Rounton, Northallerton, yesterday. The coffin was taken from London by train, which, as it entered the North Riding of Yorkshire, was met by a Flight of the North Riding Squadron of the Auxiliary Air Force, led by the Commanding Officer, Squadron Leader W. Howard Davies. The squadron escorted the train to Northallerton, where a guard of the Green Howards awaited it and accompanied it to the cemetery. The chief mourners included Colonel Maurice Bell, Admiral Sir Herbert and Lady Richmond, Lady Trevelyan, Sir Charles Trevelyan, Colonel the Hon. and Lady Kathleen Stanley, and Mrs. Hugh Bell.
