    • Sir Kenneth Pelly, MC, chairman of the general committee of Lloyd's Register of Shipping from 1957 to 1963, has died at the age of 79. He was president of the Chamber of Shipping of the United Kingdom in 1956-57. From 1941 to 1956 he was chairman of Wm France Fenwick & Co Ltd, the shipowning firm of which he had been a director since 1919. For some years he was a member of the Port of London Authority. He was educated at Charterhouse and saw service in the First World War in the RASC, reched the rank of captain and was awarded the Military Cross in 1918. He was twice mentioned in dispatches. He married in 1919 Elspeth, daughter of R C Grant. They had one son and one daughter. [The Times, obituary]
