    Notes
    • Lord Digby, who died at his Dorset home, Minterne House, near Dorchester, yesterday after a brief illness, was in his 74th year.
On relinquishing in 1889 the command of the Coldstream Guards, with whom he had served on the Suskin Expedition of 1885, he devoted himself with great zeal to the promotion of county interests. He was a prominent member of the Dorset County Council and chairman of its Asylums Committee. As honorary colonel of the Dorset Garrison Artillery, he was an enthusiastic supporter of the Volunteer movement, and he served on the executive of the Dorset County Territorial Force Association. As a landlord, he was keenly alive to the interest of agriculture and was for many years president of the Dorchester Agricultural Society. He was a consistent breeder of Channel Islands cattle and had been a successful exhibitor in local showyards. Dorset institutions had in him a generous patron. He was specially interested in the welfare of the local hospitals. From 1876 to 1885 Lord Digby sat as Conservative member for Dorset. Some years ago he pulled down the old house at Minterne and erected on the site a larger mansion. [The Times, 12 May 1920]
