    • Second Lieutenant Russell P. Tatham, of the South African Infantry, who fell on July 18, was the son of Mr. A. G. T. Tatham of Pietermaritzburg. He was in the Public Service in South Africa and was employed in the Education Department. At the outbreak of war he served with his brothers and cousins through the German South-West Africa Campaign. On the formation of the South African Overseas Contingent, he joined as a private, was rapidly promoted sergeant, and after serving against the Senussi in Egypt, and taking part in the successful battle at Mersa Matruh, was given his Commission in his own battalion as a reward for his gallantry and devotion to duty.
