The mourners included:- Mrs. Oliver Marks (widow), Captain and Mrs. G. Marks (son and daughter-in-law), the Rev. Hugh and Mrs. Marks (brother and sister-in-law), Mrs. Marriott Biggs and Miss Monica Marks (nieces), Lieutenant-General Sir Oswald and Lady Borrett (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Mr. E. S. G.     Notes 
    • Mr. O. Marks, C.M.G., who was appointed secretary of the Association of British Malaya in 1925, died at Drayton Court, S.W., yesterday. Oliver Marks was born on September 10, 1866, and was the fourth son of the late Mr. J. S. [sic] Marks. After being educated at Whitgift Grammar School he went to Ceylon and was engaged in planting from 1887 to 1891. In the latter year he was appointed superintendent of the Government Plantation, Perak. Five years later he became assistant magistrate at Kinta; in 1897 assistant secretary to the Government, Perak; and in 1898 assistant secretary to the Resident General. His next promotion was in 1903, when he was appointed secretary to the High Commissioner, Federated Malay States, and in 1911 he took up a similar post with the Resident. On several occasions he was Acting British Resident, Perak, and in 1919 was Commissioner of Lands, F.M.S. In 1920 he was appointed British Resident at Negri Sembilan and in 1911 at Selangor. He retired on pension in 1922. In 1905 he married Violet Catherine. eldest daughter of the late Colonel A. Murray, colonial engineer. Straits Settlements, and had a son. [The Times, 25 May 1940]
