    • The funeral of the Rev. Desmond Agar-Ellis Ker (26th May 1915 - 19th August 2014), Rector of St. Paul's Church, Rothesay 1980 - 1982, took place at St Paul's on Tuesday 2nd September 2014, followed by burial at Croc-an-raer Cemetery. The service was taken by the Rev. Canon Keith Pagan of Campbeltown, assisted by the very Rev. Andrew Swift, Rector of Cowal and Bute, Dean of Argyll and the Isles. The death of Mrs Priscilla Ker, in August 1982, with whom Father Ker has been buried, foreshortened his time on Bute, but he continued his Ministry in Retirement at Limpsfield, Kent and later in Hastings. Desmond Ker was educated at Malvern College, where his father was Bursar. Following war service as a commissioned officer in the army, partly in Iceland, he resumed work as a journalist in Worcestershire and was then for some years a night editor in Edinburgh. Having become closely involved in the Scottish Episcopal Church, he decided to enter the Ministry. He served as a curate in the Dioceses of Coventry and Exeter, and as Rector at Bovey Tracey in Devon. In his later years, Father Ker lived in sheltered housing, and then in a care home and a nursing home in Folkestone, near to his surviving sister, Mrs Sheila Davies. The Kers' one son, Stephen (born in 1958), a musician who has for some years lived in Denmark, was unable to attend the funeral for health reasons, but the family was represented by Father Ker's nephew and niece, Terence and Morna Finlay.
