    • Author (or co-author with her husband Abraham) of 'The Tatham family', unpubl. MS, date nk. [cited in Dictionary of South African Biography Vol 5 - page 1280]
    • In 1940 became Chairwoman of the Rotary Anns (husband was President of Cape Town Rotary). During the war the Anns raised funds and made bags for the soldiers, they set up information kiosks at the wharves and staffed them and hosted troops in their homes for R&R.
      In 1942 established and staffed Ellison House, a hospitality and recreation club for servicewomen.
      In 1955 became member of Black Sash (founded as demonstration against the Pass Laws) and continued to work legally against apartheid by offering assistance to the disadvantaged. They set up offices in the non-white townships, a kind of citizens' advice bureau providing advice to people who had grievances with landlords, money-lenders and civil bureaucrats. Jos was also a collector of books that had been banned by the government on grounds of political subversion. Remained politically active against apartheid regime all her life, distributing literature, driving voters to booths, etc.
      Supported the Summer School Programme at the University of Cape Town and recorded a series of interviews in 1981.
      Wrote an account of the foundation of the Cape Town Rotary Anns and the Ellison House project during the war, and an account of The Tathams in Natal. [5]
