    • A friend writes: Captain Alfred Charles Seton Christopher, Knight of Justice, Almoner of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, was the third son of Canon Alfred Christopher, who died in 1903 after being for 46 years rector of St. Aldate's, Oxford. Captain Christopher was at Christ Church before entering Sandhurst. Of the three governors on whose personal staff her served, Sir Richard Temple and Sir James Fergusson were Governors of Bombay and Sir Arthur Hamilton Gordon (afterwards Lord Stanmore) Governor of Ceylon. While A.D.C. to the last-named Captain Christopher conducted a mission of some importance to the Maldive Islands and was commended by the Secretary of State. He married, first, in 1892, Melesina, daughter of Mr. Philip Chenevix-Trench, brother of Archbishop Trench. She died in 1924. In 1927 he married Amy, daughter of Mr. Andrew Wauchope and widow of Major J. L'Estrange Johnstone, of Alva, R.E. His niece, Miss Eleanor Christopher, retired last year from the post of principal of St. Hild's College, Durham. In 1934 he printed for private circulation an account of "The Family of Christopher and Some Others," which was highly praised in the Genealogist's Magazine for September. Alike in his public duties and his private life, the characteristic note was his deep interest in the individual people he met and the strength of his personal friendships. [6]
