Medical report following examination on 06 Aug 1915 at Military Hospital, Rochester Row: Disability originated in May 1915 at St. Eloi. After serving 7 months in Flanders his eyes began to give him trouble. They ached; he had headaches, and at night, he began to have difficulty in seeing things. He was accordingly sent home as unfit for service. The condition has not been aggravated by service and dates probably from early childhood. It will tend to get worse. He is unfitted for the duties of a soldier.
- On the outbreak of the Great War, refusing a commission, he enlisted in the Hon. Artillery Company, to serve under his brother, Captain Cautley Tatham; they were together for the first year in the trenches, when Wulfstan was gassed and discharged. [Curtis]
