    Notes 
    • Major George-Edmund Tatham, b. 3 Oct., 1883, at Ladysmith; M.C., R.F.A.; Served throughout the German S.W. Africa Campaign, 1914-15; and then in France, 1916-19. He was Second in Command and then Commanded A. Battery, 28th Army Brigade, R.F.A. This battery was raised in 1915 and commanded by the Major's brother-in-law, Major A. J. R. Kennedy [Arthur Julius Rann Kennedy], whom he succeeded in command in July, 1918. In 1925, he was farming at Bergville, Natal. [Curtis]
    • Excellent cricketer - batsman. Played for Natal 5 times, highest score 94 [www.cricket-online.com accessed 07 Mar 2009]
    • Born 1883 in Ladysmith. He was a founder pupil at Michaelhouse, his father being a founder Governor. He went to St. Andrews in Grahamstown, which became Rhodes University, where he qualified as a Land Surveyor. He never used his training, but was sent to look after his father's farms at Tintwe in the Drakensberg, where he lived on the farm "Netherby" until the 1st World War. He played cricket for Natal and his record for 7th wicket stand with D.A. Nourse in 1903 is still an unbroken Natal Record. In World War 1 he served in the South West African Campaign, and then as a Major in the British Army he served in France and was in the Battles of Ypres and the Somme, and was awarded the Military Cross. In Belgium in 1919 he romantically met and married Marie Leone Nols, daughter of a Notaire in Verviers. They farmed at "Sandford" Bergville until 1946, when he became Managing Director of the Estcourt Bacon Factory. He died in Durban in 1956. [TFSA]
