    • After Aunt Cicely's death there was a memorial service, on 21 May 1999, held in the Cathedral, followed by a gathering in the School garden, and we sat under a cedar tree which Constable portrayed in one of his Salisbury paintings. [JH]

    Notes
    • Cicely was headmistress of the school at Leaden Hall in Salisbury. In her 40's Cicely had a brain tumour which turned out to be benign but the operation to remove the tumour left her in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Her mother Edith lived with her at the school and "ran the household" and later her sister Irene came to live with her there. In retirement Cicely and Irene lived in Babbacombe. She died at the age of 92. She was buried quietly there, but her niece organised a proper Memorial for her at Salisbury Cathedral and the school at Leaden Hall took part in remembering their founder. A Mulberry tree was planted in the garden at Leaden Hall as a Memorial. We had a picnic on the grounds of Leaden Hall and the children entertained us. Later the family had a dinner together at a pub near Salisbury. [12]
