    • Had brother Francis and three sisters Louisa, Emma and Marianne Jane.
    • His father Sir John Augustus Francis Simpkinson, 1781-1851, son of Rev. John Simpkinson of Geneva , was a QC and treasurer of Lincoln's Inn.
    • His mother Mary Griffin was the youngest daughter of John Griffin, a wealthy silk weaver, and Mary Guillemard. Her sister Jane Griffin married the Arctic explorer Sir John Franklin. Letters 1832-1841 between the 2 sisters are at the Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge.
    • His brother Francis Guillemard Simpkinson de Wesselow (1819-1906) was a naval officer and an accomplished artist. Some of his landscapes are in the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. His 1837 diary is in the Mitchell Library, Sydney.
